Tai Sivrican's accident on May 26th
Tai Sivrican, born May 9th, 2007, was in a near drowning accident May 26th, 2010 in Encino, CA. He was found by his grandma, Judy, in the pool face down. His uncle, John, gave him CPR until the Paramedics showed up, who continued to try and revive him. He was flatlined between 8 to 10 minutes until he showed signs of life and rushed to the Tarzana Provedence Hospital. He stayed in PICU there for 9 days and then transferred to the Children Hospital in Hollywood, which is one of the best hospitals for children in the country. He is currently diagnosed with dystonia and his movements are limited to very painful and constant spasms, which he is not able to control. Continuous spastic episodes cause stiffening of the muscles and joints, which will lead to deformaty. He is not able to eat, talk or walk at all and currently there is no cure for this type of condition.
He will be discharged on Tuesday July 6th, 2010. Future prognosis is unknown because he has been kept sedated to control his spasms. His cognitive condition is unknown at the moment, because of these types of traumatic brain injuries. The lack of oxygen to his brain during his trauma will not be visible for months to years. Unlike a blow to part of the head, which is more predictable, in Tai's case the lack of oxygen affects multiple areas of the braind. He will need 24 hour care and insurance only covers up to 100 hours of home care per year. Also, insurance only cover 50% of the equipment that is needed.
This donation fund was created to raise money for the continuous care that will be needed for Tai. There will be a lot of services needed for his rehabilitation.
